Fishing Tournaments

Fishing in Tournaments is a lot of fun especially when there is a good cause to raise money for charities. Most of my involvement has been with the Red Snook of Collier County originally sponsored by the YMCA to raise money for underprivileged kids. My first trophies came with Ray Lapar and Bob Bucksultz. Ray caught a sawfish to win most outstanding catch and Bob caught a 40 inch redfish still the biggest one caught to this day. We also had a third place finish.

My next team was with Sharron Thomas and Sue McAllister. These were the first women to place in this tournament - with a 2nd place finish along with top female honors. We accomplished this two consecutive years.

In the last YMCA Red Snook, I was teamed up with Diann Gray and Jeff Ball. Diann took the top Female Angler Award, and as a team, they won most redfish releases.

The Naples Conservancy now sponsors the Red Snook Tournament which hopefully this year I will have more success.

I also fished in the Everglades City leg of the celebrity Redbone Tournament Series. This tournament was started by Gary Ellis to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. My anglers were Larry and Sharron Snyder from the Keys. Sharron took top honors winning the General Bait Division.

I also get involved with the Gene Doyle Tournament. A catch and release tournament to raise money for local adventure scholarships. Fishing with Bill Lange and Rich Overzet we took the 2000 and 20002 Grand Champion Award and Largest Redfish.

I even got to fish with my daughter Skylar in one tournament where she took a third place finish.

Over the years I have been involved with all sorts of charities and small tournaments and hope to continue in the future.
