Everglades National Park

Capt. Dave Prickett – Biography

After 22 years, and I'm still amazed at the natural beauty of the Everglades ... one never stops learning here.

It all began in Trenton N.J. where I was born. About one year later the family moved to Toms River N.J. The Jersey Shore. It sure was a great place to grow up. When I was around 5 or 6 years old my grand parents moved to Dania Florida I can still remember the twin propeller plane taking off. That was it. A good reason for the Florida vacation.

In 1962, we took our first trip. One of my Dad’s friends told him of this place called Chokoloskee and all about the great fishing there. So off we went. It wasn’t to long after that my parents decided to move there permanently, leaving me behind. By this time I was out of High School and began my life as a Commercial Fisherman. It was during this time I had the opportunity to visit the Everglades fishing with my Dad.

Back in those days we not only fished with Rod and Reel. But I also got a chance to mullet fish out of a well-boat. These were great times. I truly miss those days. Moving on I finally made the move to Chokoloskee in 1987. I got my Coast Guart license and set up my guiding business. For a few years I got to fish side by side with my Dad, Capt. Dan. I am still going after 22 years, and I'm still amazed at the natural beauty of the Everglades and 10,000 Islands - one never stops learning here.

Thanks Dad.
